Metrod was established for the purpose of fabricating refined copper into copper rods and wires which are component materials used in the manufacture of all types of cables for household, electronic appliances, transformers, tin-making and others. Their products range includes copper rods, wires and copper strips. It is suitable for use in every sphere of application ranging from engineering to household appliances to electrical and communication systems as copper possesses excellent electrical conductivity, superior resistance to oxidation and corrosion, adequate mechanical strength and is environmentally friendly. It is adaptable to hot and cold metal working and can be shaped to any intricate component. Over the years, notwithstanding the challenges posed by substitute materials, copper has maintained its position because of its unique properties. Metrod was incorporated in Malaysia under the Companies Act 1965 on 26 January 1981 as a private limited company. It was converted into a public limited company on 18 October 1994. The authorised share capital of Metrod is RM100,000,000 comprising 100,000,000 ordinary shares of RM1.00 each whilst the issued and fully paid-up share capital is RM40,000,000 comprising 40,000,000 ordinary shares of RM1.00 each. On 17 January 1996, the Company's shares were listed and quoted on the Main Board of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. The Company has two subsidiaries namely Metrod (OFHC) Sdn Bhd incorporated as a private limited company on 28 May 1990 and PT Metrod Indonesia incorporated as a private limited company on 27 January 1995. Their principal activity is the manufacture of Oxygen Free High Conductivity (OFHC) electrical copper wires, rods and strips.
